Salboy hands over keys to residents as central Manchester scheme Viadux reaches completion

Salboy Group, the nationwide property development and funding company, has issued new imagery for their flagship Viadux scheme in central Manchester as the first keys start being handed over to the 370-unit tower’s new residents.

The development of this highly complex and hard-to-access brownfield site has been painstakingly created to put Manchester’s industrial heritage at the forefront, alongside contemporary luxury living at its best. The 40-storey Viadux tower is built over the top of multiple Grade 2 listed Victorian arches, all of which have been restored brick-by-brick, retained and celebrated in the way the building is designed.

Residents at Viadux will have access to a wide range of private amenities including 5400 sq.ft wet facilities including spa and sauna and 20m swimming pool under the exposed-brick arches, a 3,450 sq.ft gym and fitness studios, a cinema, games lounge, relaxation suite and co-working space. The building’s lobby features one of the largest private residential aquariums in the city, home to 23 varieties of tropical fish and corals.

As part of the redevelopment of this Deansgate site and in line with the Salboy’s commitment to enhancing the public realm that surround their buildings, the company has created a new access point to the Deansgate Metrolink tram station that runs along the base of the tower, connecting the high-traffic station with nearby Watson Street – a pedestrian thoroughfare into the rest of the city. The new access route will be opened by Manchester City Council later this summer.

The handover marks the culmination of four years’ work on Salboy’s most complex scheme to date. The site was previously home to Bauer Millett, a supplier of some of the world’s most luxurious car brands whose showroom under vaulted arches became a Manchester landmark during its forty-year tenure.

After the Bauer Millett showroom closed in 2016, the site lay disused until June 2020 when DOMIS, Salboy’s construction partner, began work on Viadux while the Covid pandemic raged. All construction milestones were met on time and on budget with work completing within the designated four-year window.

Simon Ismail, Founder & Managing Director of Salboy, comments: “After four years it’s great to see the first new residents make Viadux their home. This has been our flagship scheme, Viadux remains our most complex scheme yet, tying together pieces of Manchester’s industrial history with the sort of luxury amenities expected of modern urban homes. We are delighted that all apartments were sold pre-completion, a strong signal of the continued high demand for high-quality living in prime city centre locations.”
