Tuckingmill housing development consultation launched

Property developer Salboy has today launched a public consultation period on the second phase of its housing development in Tuckingmill, Cornwall.

The consultation, hosted at www.salboytuckingmill.com, is a chance for the public to view and feedback on the plans for the second phase of the development, which comprises 202 new homes, ahead of a formal planning submission.

The consultation period starts today, Monday 13 February, and will run until Tuesday 28 February.

Simon Ismail, Managing Director of Salboy said: “It’s been fantastic to see the development at Tuckingmill take shape and we’re excited to finally share our plans for the site and to take the next step in building some much-needed housing in Cornwall.

“The area has such a rich and interesting history and, whilst not without its challenges, it has been great to work on preserving that and transforming a disused site into something of real value to locals and those looking for a home in the heart of Cornwall.”

Plans for the second phase include 202 new homes which will be made up of 36 two-bedroom, 105 three-bedroom and 61 four-bedroom properties.

The development will be a mix of mews, semi-detached and detached-style properties and will make use of a range of materials including stone, render and timber cladding to ensure it fits with the existing house styles in the area.

Plans for the historic North Lights building and V-Buildings on Pendarves Street are also included in the consultation. Salboy hopes to rescue and repurpose the derelict former safety fuse factory, which played a significant role in helping to make mining in Cornwall safer, by converting it into 14 new mews-style houses and apartments.

Simon continued: “This consultation process is an important opportunity for us to share our plans and gather some valuable feedback from a whole range of stakeholders in the area to ensure we are transparent and can be better aligned with their needs.”

Enablement works are currently underway on the first phase of the development, which includes 77 new homes and is located at the north end of the site. Construction is expected to start soon.

The brownfield site at Tuckingmill was purchased by Salboy last year and has been earmarked for residential development for some time after first being granted outline planning permission from Cornwall Council in 2012.
