At 23 New Mount Street, The Press is a Grade II Listed Building in the heart of Manchester. The building has undergone a modern conversion comprising of 66 New York styled one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments and townhouses with striking original features and modern design touches that create a unique setting.
Historic setting
The block occupied by the present building, The Press, was once multiple dwellings, and some were thought to be back-to-backs. The Press was originally built for the Co-operative Printing Society, which was formed in Manchester as the North of England’s Co-operative Printing Society in 1869.
A group of printers started the group; some were employees for the Manchester Guardian. The society started operation as letterpress printers and stationers, while also undertaking lithography, bookbinding, ruling, and other printing work.
In 1871, what is now called The Press became the first building to hold a co-operative society that had produced their own newspaper. The society produced an independent periodical and wasn’t tied to any organisation and not even a section of the co-operative sector. An extension was added to the original building in the early 1900s. And a rooftop extension was also added to a section built in the 1920s.
More recently the building was called the New Mount Business Centre and offered 50,000 sq ft of serviced offices and business space. And now the building has been renovated into new striking townhouses and apartments, making a development with the perfect blend of old and new.
Location in the heart of Manchester
As a place of historical significance, The Press is conveniently located near other key landmarks in Manchester. Within Manchester’s business district of N.O.M.A. just north of the city centre, The Press is located next to the up and coming Green Quarter and only a stone’s throw from the Northern Quarter, the Print Works, and Victoria train station.
After being named the most liveable city in the UK, Manchester is booming and seeing a growing demand for high quality new build homes in the heart of the city. As the population of Manchester is forecast to grow dramatically, it’s important for more property developments to be brought forward in the city centre.
Apart from the shortage of potential development projects in the M1 postal district, most city centre developments in Manchester are being pre-purchased by institutional and private equity PRS funds, providing little opportunity for individuals, such as owner-occupiers, to purchase property in prime locations within Manchester. And The Press is a key opportunity for individuals to purchase a high quality, unique home in an attractive location.
